LEARNING AND UNDERSTANDING
THE TRADITIONAL GAMES
OF OUR SISTER STATE ARUNACHAL PRADESH
In the old days, many of the games, were never just "child's play" but actual training for combat and physical endurance. By highlighting them, it is hoped that more would once again start participating in and sustaining an interest in these forms. Many games of Arunachal Pradesh were brought to life in front of the students and the ease which the children displayed was very remarkable.
Cowrie Game helped the children in improving their hand eye coordination and developing alertness. It taught them to compete in a healthy environment. Above all, the game provided a scope for social interaction with children of varied age group. Students of the primary classes enjoyed this game.

Khalai Game was played by the students of junior classes. It involved the tossing of sticks up in the air and catching a stipulated number using the same hand. The winner is the one who manages to grasp the correct number of sticks each time.

Mawpoin Game was played by the senior girls. The enthusiasm of the students knew no bounds. It is basically like 'dodgeball' but with the added difficulty of having to raise up a "pyramid" of stones (in this case planks) whilst running from the opponents. This is a lovely team-emphatic sport. Raman house stood the winner team in this sport.
